Orly Lunar Eclipse (Cosmic FX Collection)

Hello! I’m finally back from my most horrendous week of the year! 40% and 60% essays and 30% test within 6 days is seriously no joke omg. I don’t even know how I got past it! I missed nail blogging so much but I kinda feel as though I dunno how to blog anymore cos I didn’t do it for so long ):

Anyway today we have Orly Lunar Eclipse here! It came from the same collection as Halley’s Comet yet the finish is not quite the same. This is more of a jelly base with super spammage of microglitter that makes it look so sparkly! Instead, Halley’s Comet is more of a glass fleck, unlike Lunar Eclipse.

Check out the bottle colour. There’s duochrome of purple and gold in there but the gold NEVER showed up on my nails before ):

This is Lunar Eclipse, face on. It’s a royal blue base with the microglitter and this is two coats. It’s soooooooo sparkly!! When there is a light source shining at it, it really looks lit from within. So pretty! ❤ This is on my toes now and whenever I wear my gold Zara grecian sandals with this, it just makes me look very Egyptian hahahaha =X (I mean my feet though, not my whole body =\ )

Under a different light source the purple duochrome shows up, you can tell a little from these two pictures! It’s actually more obvious in real life. Somehow duochromes don’t always show up well in pictures. Someone needs to invent a camera that can pick up all the colours in a polish NOW!!

Anyway I will be back to regular posting as much as I can, until my exams next month. I have the best exam timetable for the whole of my university life! Can’t wait for holidays when I can paint my nails EVERYDAY! ❤

Orly Halley’s Comet (Cosmic FX Collection)

I really need to improve my dictionary of words to describe polish because I always use the same words like ‘gorgeous’, ‘awesome’, ‘beautiful’ etc, but this Halley’s Comet is another one that really deserves this description!

Halley’s Comet is a turquoise blue glass fleck glitter with a duochrome green shimmer. This was 3 coats and they needed the 3 if not there will be VNL (visible nail line). The formula was good, very smooth and easy to apply! It is so shiny in real life! Whenever I wear it I feel like a mermaid hahaha cos it really gives off this oceanic vibe.

You can see the duochrome green shimmer here! hehehehe this really is so gorgeous and breathtaking! ❤

If you don’t already own this you really should go pick it up! Unless if you already have Zoya Charla or OPI Catch Me In Your Net, which I have in the mini version but I lent it to my best friend Jadyn so I can’t do a comparison on how similar they look but when I get it back in future, I’ll definitely post up a comparison!

Initially I got the OPI Catch Me In Your Net in the OPI Summer Flutter mini set, and the colour really wowed me! I wanted to get the full sized bottle later on but was told that it was discontinued, so knowing that Orly and Zoya both had a dupe, I decided on getting from either of them but settled on Orly instead cos Zoya is a little more pricey in Singapore ): Get it before they discontinue it from Orly or Zoya too! It’s too gorgeous to be missed 😀

OPI Silver Shatter (Pirates of the Carribean Collection)

I’m no big fan when it comes to crackle polishes. However, OPI was the first to do the Silver Shatter amongst all the other usual brands and it was so pretty, so naturally I can’t resist and snapped it up immediately. And by the way OPI, stop trying to act cool and give ‘different’ names to all the already-named types of crackle!! OPI Shatter, Nicole by OPI Texture Coat, Sephora by OPI Blasted. Wtf they’re all essentially the same thing why make it so confusing?!?! It is called crackle, NOT shatter (OR Texture Coat OR Blasted, for that matter)!!!! (The same goes out to all of you ‘shatter’ fans. STOP calling it shatter -.-)

I painted pretty thin coats over Orly Sapphire SIlk on my pointer, middle and ring fingers and the brush strokes were pretty obvious and there was less crackling at the tips of these 3 nails. My pinky had a slightly thicker coat, and it looks wayyyy more awesome like that! I like the crackle to be in large pieces instead of sparse little ones.

Oh and I really must say, I LOVE how it crackled on my thumb!! I used a thick coat here too, it crackled so beautifully ❤ I know the pattern of my crackle looks unusual, not like what people usually do. I painted the crackle diagonally, so that they would crackle diagonally. Crackle polishes crack in the direction of your brushstrokes.

I really hate the usual vertical strokes. I think they’re so ugly hahaha. I think mine’s cooler, don’t you think? 😀

Orly Sapphire Silk (Precious Collection)

I loved this shade ever since I saw the swatches on Scrangie and I knew I had to get it! I didn’t own any teal shades prior to this though now I also have Zoya Breezi, a lighter shade of teal but leaning more towards blue. I got it from Nailvibe during their summer sale instead of my trusty friend Genevieve because 8ty8beauty no longer stocks up on Orly colours ): And it’s too expensive to get from Transdesign so getting from Nailvibe was my safest bet (:

Sapphire Silk is a dark teal creme. It doesn’t look like silk to me, much less sapphire. This was two coats. The opacity was really good but the formula was really bad! It was sooooooo watery but thick and that equals to a fail formula. I added Seche Restore so that it is easier for me to apply. I smudged it all over my cuticles this time round (which I hardly ever do) and it’s so saddening cos I had to spend extra time cleaning up.

Damn the new formula!! All my older Orly polishes have really awesome formula. What happened to you, Sapphire Silk???

Harry Potter Nails

I’m a big fan of Harry Potter and the seven books. To mark the end of the movie franchise, I just had to do a Harry Potter manicure to get myself hyped up. Anyway the movie was freaking awesome! I love it so much and was so happy to watch it but also very sad that it is over for real. It’s like a part of me is gone cos it all ends here ):

What I used (L-R):

  • MAC Creme Shirelle
  • Orly Luxe
  • Orly Liquid Vinyl
  • Essie Going Incognito
  • Zoya Trixie
  • Tape (not shown)
  • The Face Shop Nail Art Pen in Silver (not shown)

Slytherin flag colours on my left hand, with the Deathly Hallows symbol on my thumb.

Gryffindor flag colours on my right hand, and also the Deathly Hallows symbol on my thumb.

Now you know why I did swatches with my right hand, cos Creme Shirelle was on my right hand and Going Incognito was on the left! Hahahaha. I painted them the night before so that they had ample time to dry to the core, and the following day I cut up small squares of tape and taped off 2 corners on each nail to do this checkered pattern.

For the thumbs, I painted them black and drew the Deathly Hallows symbol with The Face Shop Nail Art Pen.

I can has the Resurrection Stone on my thumbs! It kinda looks like my primary school school crest right??? LOL

Hahaha see, the same shapes are used!! Lol!

It’s gonna truly end when I remove this manicure and do the next one ):

Nail Art

Nail art is pretty to look at, yet super tedious to execute. Since I’m a right-hander, it is always easier for me to draw nicely for the nails on my left hand, and those on my right hand always turn out so ugly cos I’ve lousy control over my left hand ): So far, I’ve done a couple of crazy-cute nail art for myself! Here are the pics (:

My very first full-fledged cartoon manicure, the Penguin Manicure! I think this was particularly challenging when I had to draw the nails on my right hand. It was so hard to get the ‘M’ shaped curve on top! But the final results was so awesome cos they turned out so cute! I got many many compliments for this! Haha.

What I used:

  • White: Sinful Colors Snow Me White
  • Black: The Face Shop nail art pen (this is surprisingly good! very fine and opaque but my friend accidentally spoilt it, haha)
  • Orange: OPI Flit A Bit
  • Pink: Orly Cotton Candy

The next nail art that I did was of Domo-kun! This was inspired from The Daily Nail! The most difficult part of this manicure was drawing those stupid white teeth!! My best friend, Jadyn and I spent so much time just helping each other draw the little triangles that made up the teeth cos the nail art pen kept stringing the polish (it probably is too thick).

For the mouth, we taped off the sides with tape and painted the little rectangle with red polish, but the polish kept sticking to the sides of the tape when I’m pulling the tape off! What a chore!! But I’m really glad it turned out so cute haha and yes, we both got many compliments for it too (:

Shaohui's Domo-kun ManicureMy sister, Shaohui did the Domos with us too but for her she only did the thumbs, and I wrote ‘Domo-kun’ in Japanese for the rest of her fingers (I can’t actually write Japanese, I copied it off Google Translate HAHA). It was very cute too!

What we used:

  • Brown: Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme
  • Red: MAC Creme Shirelle
  • Black (for the eyes): The Face Shop nail art pen
  • White: The Face Shop nail art pen
  • and loads of tape :p

After all that nail art (and how a chore it was to draw the same thing 10 times), I was sick of it and stopped doing nail art for 1.5 months. Partially also because I was waiting for my Zoya haul to arrive so that I can do some Pikachu nails!

Aren’t they cute?!?!?! Hahaha! These were inspired by Nails by Asami! By this time, my nail art pen was spoilt, so I wanted to use my dotting tool to draw the faces but it was so damn hard! I gave up and used markers to draw instead. LOL. It was super easy to do this set cos with markers the ink just flows easily, unlike using a nail art pen where I have to keep squeezing the tube to let the polish flow out, or using a dotting tool where I have to keep dipping it into the bottle so many times. The only downside of it was that I should have waited longer before painting topcoat, because it smudged some parts of my manicure ): But maybe I smudged it by spreading topcoat too many times at the same spot :/

What I used:

  • Yellow: Zoya Pippa
  • Red & Black: Pilot Twin Markers
  • White: The Face Shop nail art pen

Last but not least, I did Strawberry nails with Shaohui again! I wanted them to look upright when holding onto a polish bottle so I decided to paint the green first. What a bad idea this was. When the red went over the green, it became SO DULL! I had to paint an additional thick coat of it to make it look more opaque. The results were still awesome nonetheless! I can has cute strawbie nails 😀

What I used:

  • Green: Orly Fresh
  • Red: Eyeko Coral Polish
  • Silver: The Face Shop nail art pen

Sadly, once school starts I may not have a chance to spend 3 hours drawing on my nails anymore. But I can still Konad-stamp my nails 😀 Stay tuned for posts on my Konad-ed nails!
